Racers on BFGoodrich® Tires clinch Pro 2 and Pro 4 wins in final laps

BFGoodrich® Tires marked the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series opener in Chandler, Ariz., with two intense class wins.

After nearly a month of weather delays, the season opener assembled a full stadium of fans ready for the excitement of short-course racing. Their wait was rewarded with one of the most exciting Pro 4 finishes in memory.

In the Pro 4 race warm-up, BFGoodrich champion Rob MacCachren discovered a broken transmission on his truck and did not race. Another BFGoodrich champion, Bryce Menzies, was recovering from an injury and asked off-road racing legend Carl Renezeder to come out of retirement and race for the Menzies Motorsports team.

Renezeder gave the crowds at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park a thrilling race as he quickly managed to gain second position behind five-year Pro 4 champion Kyle LeDuc. Midway through the last lap, LeDuc hit a rut in a corner, going up on two wheels momentarily. Renezeder managed a tight pass and seized the top position shortly before crossing the finish line.

“Champions rise to the occasion, and that’s what Carl Renezeder did in coming out of retirement to help the Menzies team,” said Chris Baker, director of motorsports for BFGoodrich and Michelin North America. “To see him back on the track, and to hear the fans roar their approval, was unforgettable.”

In the Pro 2 race, Rob MacCachren, who has won nearly every off-road race imaginable on BFGoodrich® Tires during his 30-year career, added another first-place finish to his resume. MacCachren took the top qualifying spot for the Pro 2 race and never gave up his lead throughout all 16 laps.

BFGoodrich racer R.J. Anderson was close on MacCachren’s heels the entire race until a mechanical issue on the last lap took him out of competition, securing MacCachren’s victory.

“Tonight we had the privilege to see greatness in action,” Baker said. “Rob MacCachren won the Pro 2 field with a flawless run in which he subtly changed his line every lap to keep up with the evolving racecourse.”

In addition to taking the top spots in Pro 2 and Pro 4, BFGoodrich also took two of the top three spots in the Pro Buggy field, marking a solid start for the 2018 Lucas Oil Off Road Series. The next round of the series will take place May 19 in Ensenada, Mexico.
