BFGoodrich Tires Joins 2017 Wings for Life World Run

 

The brand will serve as the official tire sponsor of the Wings for Life Catcher Cars, in pursuit of finding a cure for spinal cord injuries.

 On Sunday, May 7th BFGoodrich® Tires – a brand synonymous with challenging performance seekers to prove their mettle on and off of the pavement – will shift its focus outside of the automotive arena, challenging consumers in a different way, as it returns as an official sponsor of the Wings for Life World Run.

For a second consecutive year, BFGoodrich is challenging itself to prove that its energy, spirit and passion for driving can be channeled and demonstrated in a manner that benefits others in a nontraditional format, because 364 days of the year we are drive... but today, we run.

Hosted in partnership with Red Bull, the Wings for Life World Run is an annual race spanning six continents where thousands of runners will come together to raise awareness and much-needed funds for spinal cord research. What makes the Wings for Life World Run unique is the fact that the competition features both casual and competitive runners that start simultaneously across the globe – at high noon or in the darkest of night.

Also unique to this race is how it ends. Each location features a “Catcher Car” that serves as the moving finish line, rolling out on BFGoodrich tires exactly thirty minutes after the racers take off at a precise and pre-determined speed to hunt down (or chase) the racers. As soon as a runner is caught by the Catcher Car, their race is over for that participant and they are instructed to return to the staging area to celebrate their accomplishment.

BFGoodrich Tire will participate in more than a dozen locations throughout the world. Additionally, across the globe, BFGoodrich Tires promotes it’s App Run which encourages employees, families and friends to participate in the Wings for Life World Run in their own hometown.

The Catcher Car’s pursuit, and its speed, continues to increase until one man and one woman are left running worldwide, who will become the eventual Wings for Life World Run Global Champions.

Here’s a look at the 2017 Wings for Life World Run Timeline and Catcher Car speed intervals:

• 11:00 UTC – Race Start
• 11:30 UTC – Catcher Car Starts – Pace of 15 km/h (approx. 9.3 mph)
• 12:30 UTC – Pace increases to: 16 km/h (9.94 mph)
• 13:30 UTC – Pace increases to: 20 km/h (12.43 mph)
• 16:30 UTC – Pace increases to: 35 km/h (approx. 21.75 mph), which remains steady until the final participant is passed.
