After conquering the treacherous terrain of Mexico's Baja Peninsula, traversing the sands of northwest Africa and triumphing in europe's top all-terrain rally competitions, BFGoodrich® Tires is again turning its attention to the challenge of the Siberian taiga and the Mongolian Steppe for the second edition of the Transsyberia Rally, July 11 - 25. This year's rally will run more than 4,347 miles stretching between Moscow and the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar and BFGoodrich tires will again be the tires of choice for several specially prepared Porsche Cayenne S SUVs entered in this grueling and mechanically challenging motorsports competition. Visit the 2008 Rally Transsyberia website at http://www.porsche.com/microsite/transsyberia2008/international.aspx.
Organized for the first time in 2007, the Transsyberia Rally is open to production 4x4 vehicles which have been specifically reinforced to soak up the punishing terrain and conditions. The inaugural event was won by famed New Zealand rally driver and former winner of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Rod Millen. This year, with the cancellation of the Paris-Dakar Rally, Rod Millen's 23-year-old son, Ryan, has been recruited by his father to tackle the Transsyberia Rally, an event the elder Millen once called, "the toughest thing I'd ever done."
Ryan already has a very impressive resume. At the tender age of just 18, he competed in his first Baja 1000 and in the five years that followed, moved from off-road buggies into heavier, more powerful stock vehicles; in 2008, he will compete in his sixth. Ryan also has a class victory from New Zealand's toughest off-road event, the 2007 Taupo 1000 to his credit. Millen's background and diverse range of interests make him a formidable competitor. In addition to his racing experience, he's an engineer, working at the family business, MillenWorks, in Fountain Valley, California, on a variety of military projects. Perhaps more importantly, he has a natural affinity for the wilderness, enjoying all manner of outdoor pursuits, including mountain biking. "I just love being outdoors," he says. "In the summer, I crave adventure."
Ryan will be in for the adventure of his life as he will be amongst 20 competitors fielding Porsche Cayenne S SUVs outfitted with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A® KO tires when the 4,347-mile, 14-stage rally begins in Moscow's Red Square on July 11. The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tire is the perfect choice for the event as they have been tried and tested for more than 30 years in some of the planet's most grueling environments and are attributed to several class wins at the Baja 1000 and the Paris-Dakar Rally.
