What tire is associated with everything from stars and stripes to disco to groovy rides and race wins? The BFGoodrich® Radial T/A®. To celebrate 40 years of contributions to America's culture, personality and amazing drives, BFGoodrich Tires has developed the BFGoodrich Radial T/A Spec Redline edition tire for a special project car to be featured at the BFGoodrich Tires booth at the NSRA Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky.
Over the past 40 years, the BFGoodrich Radial T/A has been a "co-star" in movies, TV shows and racing wins with credits such as the "A-Team Van," the "General Lee," "Future Shock" and "Stars-and-Stripes." BFGoodrich's Radial T/A tires have been upgrading performance of classic vehicles in Americana, and have been praised by professional drivers for having revolutionized motorsports. The tire has been chosen by Ridler Award-winning hot-rod customizers, while continuing to be an essential piece of American car culture.
Upgrading Performance for More Than 40 Years
The BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire has proven itself over the years as a true automotive icon. The head-turning 218 mph performance on John Greenwood's "Stars-and-Stripes" 1972 Chevrolet Corvette at the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans solidified the Radial T/A as a force to be reckoned with in the racing world. In the 1970s, BFGoodrich Tires made a splash in Trans-Am racing with its company-branded Pontiac Firebirds, called "Tirebirds," showing non-believers that radial technology was the wave of the future. The BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire continued its domination in the 1980s at the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Radial Sedan Series.
Looks That Keep On Giving
The BFGoodrich Radial T/A is respected as much today for its style as its proven performance. Custom hot-rod builders, like TeamBFG member Bobby Alloway, owner of Alloway's Hot Rods, and TeamBFG member Troy Trepanier, owner of Rad Rides by Troy, look to the BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire to take their $100,000-plus masterpieces to higher performance levels.
The BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire has allowed purists to stay true to the car customization movement's roots while pushing the envelope of style. Whether it was an aggressive, staggered stance or a big, beefy, tucked-in look, the BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire continues to deliver the fitments and authentic appearance enthusiasts crave. With the recent upswing in muscle-car and hot-rod popularity, the BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire again has taken the lead as the go-to tire for looks and performance.
"The legendary performance heritage of the BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire is simply one of a kind," said Richard Winchester, a 40-plus-year BFGoodrich Tires employee and original Radial T/A "Team T/A" member. "The Radial T/A tire is both old-school and new-school, with proven performance and the must-have fitments for muscle cars, street rods and light trucks."
During the past 40 years, the Radial T/A has contributed to a variety of looks. A notable group to take advantage of the plethora of BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire sizes was the custom van movement in the mid-1970s and early 1980s. BFGoodrich Tires even built its own customized van, called "Futureshock," that featured a disco-themed interior and far-out paint job.
40 Years of Development and Counting
BFGoodrich Tires believes in performance-proven testing in order to deliver consumers the best bolt-on performance possible, which is one of the many reasons why the BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire became a must for muscle cars. The wide assortment of sizes, improved grip and maximum toughness also add to the appeal.
Continually upgraded sizes and excellent performance remain a perfect fit for many of today's custom hot rods, muscle cars and light trucks. The BFGoodrich Radial T/A tire boasts more than 40 tire sizes and will continue its legacy as America's original performance radial tire for many years to come.
Special edition Hurst Redline Camaro Series
In addition to celebrating the 40th anniversary at the NSRA Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, by giving away commemorative items, BFGoodrich Tires has also teamed up with Hurst Performance Vehicles and TeamBFG member Kyle Tucker's Detroit Speed and engineering to introduce the Hurst Redline Camaro Series. The 2010 Hurst Redline Camaro, featuring BFGoodrich Radial T/A Spec Redline edition tires, will be on tour throughout the summer and will be making stops across the country at various Goodguys Tour events and finally in Las Vegas for the SeMA show.
