BFGoodrich Racing returns to the SCORE International Baja 1000, hungrier than ever for desert racing glory and its 34th overall victory – more than any other tire brand.
The 57th SCORE Baja 1000 runs Nov. 11-17, with the race beginning the morning of Friday, Nov. 15. Racers will venture 864.13 miles across the rugged terrain of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, starting and finishing in Ensenada. Qualifying on Nov. 12 will determine the starting order in the Trophy Truck, Trophy Truck Legends and Trophy Truck Spec classes.
“There’s a reason the Baja 1000 is regarded as the pinnacle of desert racing,” said Raymond Cotton, North American Motorsports Director for BFGoodrich. “Baja puts race teams, their vehicles and their tires to the test, unlike anywhere else in the world. The varied terrain, weather conditions and long distance can stop you in your tracks, but BFGoodrich’s success over the years speaks for itself, and we’re always looking for the next level of performance.”
Trophy Truck titans
Dakar Rally veteran Toby Price and fellow Australian Paul Weel won the Baja 500 and are hungry for more Baja glory in their Mason AWD Trophy Truck on BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR3 tires. … Luke McMillin captured three consecutive overall wins from 2020-22 and is always a threat to return to the top of the podium. He will again team up with off-road racing legend Rob MacCachren.
UTV contenders
Cayden MacCachren, of the Polaris Factory Racing Team, has won the Pro UTV Open class in the San Felipe 250, the Baja 500 and the Baja 400. A win in the Baja 1000 would complete the SCORE sweep and give him the 2024 class title. His No. 1821 RZR Pro R rides on 35x10.50R15 BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR2 SxS UTV tires. MacCachren, who also won his class in the 2023 Baja 1000 from La Paz to Ensenada, currently leads Branden Sims by 29 points. … Can Am driver Phil Blurton also races on the 35” KR2 and is aiming for his third SCORE victory of 2024, having already won the Pro UTV Forced Induction class at the San Felipe 250 and Baja 500.
History
BFGoodrich has a long and storied history in off-road racing, dating back to the early days of the sport. The Baja 1000 began in 1967 as the NORRA Mexican 1000 and its legend has grown, placing it alongside marquee races like the Indianapolis 500 and the Dakar Rally.
BFGoodrich first competed in the race in 1976 with two entries in the SCORE Baja 1000. After competing for 11 years, BFGoodrich Racing’s first overall SCORE Baja 1000 victory came in 1986 with Mark McMillin on second-generation Radial All-Terrain T/A tires. It was the first of what would become a 20-year streak of overall Baja 1000 wins. The Baja 1000 is the finale of the four-race SCORE World Desert Championship season.
The brand is again proud to offer BFGoodrich Pit Support and mapping to participants racing on BFGoodrich tires.
